Committee of Management

Our Structure | Responsibilities | Profiles

Our Structure

The aim of ACF is to nationally develop, promote, administer and co-ordinate in a professional and efficient manner, the unique Australian sport of Calisthenics for the enjoyment and benefit of all.

We have two levels of decision making, the Committee of Management and The Council.

Responsibilities

This level is responsible for the structures, processes, actions, resourcing and achievement of strategic directions identified by the Council.

It attains these outcomes primarily through the sub-committees of:

  • ACF Coaching Committee (ACFCC)
  • Adjudicators Advisory Board (AAB)
  • Examiners Advisory Board (EAB)

It is also responsible to attaining external resources, managing external advocacy and communication links. The committee meets 3 or 4 times a year in person and occasionally via teleconference. Together with The Council, we enthusiastically try to mould the sport to identify and meet the changing needs of all stakeholders; stakeholders being participants, parents, and the government, in the face of competition from other sports and escalating costs.

Committee Profiles

Lynne Hayward (President)

Lynne was appointed President of ACF in May 2004. She has been involved with calisthenics as a performer, a director of Calisthenics Victoria for ten years, Currently President of the Victorian Calisthenic Association, section manager of the State Team, club administrator and author of two calisthenic books.

Outside calisthenics, Lynne has been running her own training consultancy business for 25 years specialising in leadership and customer service training for all sectors of business. She has a passion for helping people reach full potential, either in their work careers, or their sporting careers.

Marilyn Crossley (Director of Finance)

Marilyn has been involved in calisthenics as a pupil (15 years), mother of 2 girls from Tinies - Intermediates (13 years), section manager and DOF since 2004. Also volunteers as timer and ticket box attendant at Victorian competitions.

Working in her own bookkeeping business since 2000 she enjoys the challenges of being a member of the ACF Committee of Management. She feels it is a priviledge to work with the other members of the Committee, who come from various backgrounds, to develop the strategies and plan for the future growth of this uniquely Australian sport.

Shirley Pettitt (Director of Planning)

Shirley commenced her association with Calisthenics at the age of 2 at a local club and quickly developed a passion for it which has remained throughout all aspects of her involvement. She moved to Clifton Calisthenic College as a young Sub-Junior and worked through Seniors. Commenced coaching shortly after marrying in 1973 where her daughter also commenced her involvement, again at the age of 2. Adjudicating was added to the list in 1998. In 2007, became Vice President of the Victorian ASCA branch.

Shirley works as a Business Manager at a Government Primary School and has two adult children. Luckily, sewing has been a great interest since teenage years which has been a wonderful asset over the many years of involvement!

Liz Kratzel (Director of Competition)

Liz lives in Canberra and has been involved at ACF level since the year 2000. In 2002 she was elected to her current position which mainly involves the co-ordination of the National Championships each year and keeping up to date with the National Rules.

During over 13 years involvement in the sport she has undertaken the roles of Club President, CACTI President, Team Manager, Competition delegate, ACF Delegate and currently the ACF Director of Competitions and CACTI President. Her only claim to participation (on stage) was performing a solo with the sole purpose of trying to sell surplus merchandise from the Nationals. (it worked).

In her “other life”, Liz works in the Australian Public Service in the Human Resources field.

Liz is married and has a son and two daughters (thus my involvement).

Over the years I have enjoyed watching Calisthenics performances, but most of all I have witnessed the personal growth of individuals and applaud the sport for providing the opportunity to learn some very important life skills.

Meredith Phillis (Director of Coaching)

Married to Neville, Meredith has three adult children, two son in laws and a grandson. She works full time as a Tax Consultant/Area Manager for H & R Block Registered Tax Agents. Meredith has been involved in Calisthenics all her life, as a competitor, State team representative, Coach, Mother of competitors, Mother of Coach. She has been on the ACFCC since May 1997 and Director of Coaching since July 2002. Currently, she is also one of the Vice Presidents of the Calisthenic Association of South Australia and the Vice President of the SA Calisthenic Coaches Council (CALSAC). Meredith is also a Life Member of CALSAC. At club level Meredith keeps involved sitting on the committee of Highbury Calisthenics Inc. where her daughter is the Coach of the Junior section. Her involvement in Calisthenics helps maintain a balance between work and leisure activities which include of course Calisthenics, House Boating and her new activity, attending "Curves" Gym!!

Diane Winterling (Director of Cali Skills)

Calisthenics has had a significant impact in my life and my association with our wonderful sport has been developed over many years.

Diane has been involved at club and state representative level, as a Level 2 Coach, a Member of the Calisthenic South Australian Coaches executive and Level 2 Coordinator, as a Level 2 Adjudicator, Gold Medal Examiner and Calisthenics Association of South Australia Calisthenic Skills Administrator. This involvement has given an insight into and knowledge of all levels of our sport.

Her professional career within the Department of Education and Children’s services in teaching, leadership and the corporate section has helped her acquire organisational, communication and decision making skills.

As the ACF Director of Skills, I am delighted to offer my expertise to the Australian Calisthenic Federation and the Examiners Advisory Board.

Barbara Nickless (Director of Adjudicating)

Barbara has been involved in Calisthenics since 1953 as a pupil, coach and adjudicator. Barbara commenced adjudicating in 1980 and has adjudicated at Nationals, RSSS., Interstate and at all Melbourne metro. Competitions. She was presented with a National Official of the Year in 1997 and Vic. Sports Ed. Official of the Year in 2006. This year A.S.C.A. Vic. awarded Barbara Life Membership. At the A.S.C.A. Vic.
